Thanks and Thoughts on Thoughts!
Hello!
Another milestone has been hit! Thank you all so much for over 100 downloads! That’s a 3 digit number! Wow! :D
And as thank you, I’ll write another ramble post.
Something that made me very happy is that the first comment I received, the person resonated with Avery, and the second comment resonated with Jinx. I pumped my fist in excitement seeing them side by side. Yes! I made them both awful enough to be toxic yuri but human enough they can be understood!
Because that’s something I want to be sure to portray in my works going forward. That everyone is human. Everyone has a cause or a reason behind what they do.
Both Jinx and Avery were awful for each other, but I didn’t want it to be “she’s bad and that’s that.” I wanted to let the audience peer into their minds and see how they justify those actions to themselves. I was so torn when initially ideating which POV I’d tell the story in. Until, I realized I could just show both if I really wanted to. And so I did! I hope the mid-section of Act 2 being in Avery’s perspective brings some understanding (not justification though, that was still a crime.) to how her toxicity emerged. As well as getting to display Jinx from the outsider’s perspective, seeing her “perfect” (hollow) self without being interupted by her self-absorbed thoughts.
But you can disregard that paragraph if you feel that wasn’t properly represented in the story. At the end of the day, I published something, and the audience will make a judgement and interpretation.
Speaking of, I’m surprised how many people resonated with both Jinx and my last devlog on aromanticism! I didn’t intend to aro-code Jinx, as I’m afraid of contributing to negative aro stereotyping. As an aro person, I feel I can do better and bring some positivity to our community. But, if the audience read Jinx as an aro character and enjoyed that, I won’t take that away!
I hope to write more characters that can be understood on a deeper level.
If you downloaded Juliet’s Sol and had any sort of opinion, I would greatly appreciate hearing your thoughts in the itchio comment section, or reaching out on my socials!
